How to ...

*To add an inmate to this website

Send his/her address, advertisement and a picture (optional) to me. The ad will be placed on here in a week to two weeks, free of charges. Or fill in the form you can find here.

                        *Find an inmate

Write to prisoners administration of the institution where that person in incarcerated. If he or she is transferred, and you don't have the new address, you can write to prisoners administration of the prison he/she was  in last time. You give name and number of the inmate and explain that the person  you are looking for, is transferred but that you don't have the new address. They will provide it. Note: it can take quit some time before you receive a reply

*Make your mail get to the prisoner faster

Instead of sending your letters in envelops of normal size, send them in big envelops or, if possible, in a postage package. The mailroom checks large envelops and packages faster then normal sizes. Packages have to go trough X-rays, to check if you aren't sending the inmate something that isn't allowed.
Don't put stickers on your envelop nor letters.
Try to put as less stamps on it as possible (if you write from another country), because some prisons don't exept letters with more then 2 stamps on it. Also there are prisons who only allow a certain amount of pages you can send in 1 letter.
Ask the inmate that you write to send you a copy of the snail mail rules of the prison

ALWAYS PUT YOUR OWN NAME AND ADDRESS ON THE ENVELOP (if possible, on the front side, because some mail rooms use any excuse they can find to return letters or not deliver them to the inmate)

                                    *Send pictures to an inmate

NEVER send polaroid pictures, don't send copied pictures or photos you printed from the internet. Ask the inmate what the rules are for sending photos. Because certain prisons only allow a certain amount of photos.
